The Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus is not like most bean-to-cup machines we’ve featured here. This minimalist machine was designed to produce high-quality espressos and black coffee. It’s a dream machine for those who are particular with their beans, but aren’t impressed with brewing via drip-type machines.

While it only serves black coffee lovers, Jura did an impressive job with this machine. Those who love milk-based drinks can also benefit from the ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus, but they must be open to frothing their own milk manually (with optional accessories they could buy).

Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus Features

The highlight of Jura ENA Micro 1 is the near-perfect production of ristretto, espresso and cafe lungo every time. It may lack milk frothing capabilities, but the freshly brewed black coffee definitely makes up for it.

Jura understands that the secret to great espresso is fresh beans, so they designed the bean hopper uniquely with a special lid that preserves every inch of aroma and oils from your beans, even if you place a whole pack on the hopper.

Customizable

Purists and even regular black coffee lovers would benefit from the customizable brewing options. You can control volume of water, strength of water, aroma levels, coffee strength (there’s two options), and more. You can also just select from three user-defined cup sizes, so you’ll be able to brew your chosen drink with a push of a button.

Aroma+ System

The Jura Ena Micro 1 boasts of its Aroma+ system, which uses gentle grinding to preserve oils from coffee beans. This system also extracts freshly ground coffee under perfect conditions to maximize the flavour and aroma of your drink.

Sensor-touch Controls

Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus is designed with only three buttons at the top panel, all of which are controlled with sensor-touch technology. No need to twist a knob, or press buttons continuously with this machine.

Easy Cleaning

Aside from its water filter system, the Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus also has a built-in rinsing, cleaning and descaling programs that automatically do their functions regularly. Although you still need to clean the drip tray and change water filters every now and then.

Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma+ Specifications and Technical details

The Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus is a minimalist and stylish piece of kitchen equipment. Measuring only 9.06″ x 12.72″ x 17.52″ (W x H x D) and weighing just about 20 pounds, this Jura bean-to-cup machine clearly was given special treatment design-wise.

Out of the box, it includes the brewing unit with integrated Aroma+ conical burr coffee grinder, 1 CLARIS Blue water filter cartridge, 2 pieces of JURA 2-Phase coffee machine cleaning tablets, a Pre-ground coffee spoon and funnel, one water hardness test strip, your very own JURA JURA Machine passport, the instruction manual and 25-Month JURA Warranty registration information.

The water tank, which looks amazing at the back panel, holds up to 37 ounces of water. The bean hopper at the top can accommodate 4.4 ounces of beans, while its dregs container can carry up to 9 servings.

Inside this shiny machine, the Jura ENA Micro 1 Aroma Plus is equipped with a thermoblock heating system, 15-bar high-performance pump, and its Aroma+ system – all working together to maximize the potential of your coffee beans.

The Claris water filter cartridge prevents too much scale build-up, but this unit only comes with 1 free cartridge. You’d have to buy additional cartridges (along with the cleaning tablets) if you wish.

  • The Jura ENA Micro 1 does not mess around. It’s specialised to just two types of coffee drink, espresso and black coffee and it does them fantastically.

  • The Ena Micro 1 is a little on the expensive side, but for an upper-mid range model, it really is worth every penny. It brews an absolutely delicious cup of espresso, and the machine itself is so easy to use and clean. You’d have trouble finding another coffee maker of this quality at a lower price.

  • Coffee enthusiasts will have a great time using this machine. Although it has a few lacking features, the quality of espresso it produces makes up for it.

User Reviews

  • Mark B – (5/5) “The machine is a quality product that is well made and, in my opinion, looks stunning. It is easy to use and makes wonderful coffee. I am absolutely delighted with the machine’s performance and I fully agree with the detailed review that was submitted by “The Usual Suspect”, which I think sums it up perfectly. The machine is a basic model, so it might not suit someone who wants additional features like a milk dispenser/frother, but machines with these features cost considerably more and involve additional cleaning, with more risk of things that can go wrong. I am happy to recommend this model to anyone looking for a machine that is easy to use because it is a quality product and good value for money.”

  • JMDT – (5/5) “The Jura has produced up to 10 cups of perfect coffee a day for two years with no problems whatsoever and I would buy the same machine again without question if it did ever go wrong. It may seem expensive initially compared to a “Nespresso” type machine, but the savings you get by buying your own coffee beans as opposed to Nespresso capsules, not to mention the much wider choice of coffee you have, makes the Jura a better long term choice. It is just as easy to use as any Nespresso machine.”

  • Harry – (5/5) “Love it, we have for 2 years now and it’s great, works flawlessly, would buy again!”

  • Fred Spare – (5/5) “In short, I am a hard-core, daily black coffee drinker. I have used this for six months, after a decade with another high-ticket Swiss machine. This has no drawbacks I can discern. Unqualified recommendation. Buy with confidence.”

  • CFS – (4/5) “I love my coffee and waited ages before I took the jump to a proper bean to cup. I had a nespresso machine before which was great however I got annoyed with the same tasting coffee and it felt generic and in interesting after a while. I only drink mainly espresso so don’t buy this machine if you drink coffee with milk. It’s an absolute breeze to maintain the machine tells you what it wants when it wants. The taste of the espresso is incredible it makes nespresso look like instant.”

  • JJ Francis – (5/5) “This makes a perfect (to me) cup of espresso – style coffee only limited by the quality of the bean. I bought it for my coffee-loving wife who knows a “crema” when she sees it.”

  • Karl Zachry – (5/5) “I got tired of steaming my milk and years ago purchased an Aerolatte whip to froth the milk. Frankly, I like it better than steamed. I put my milk in the microwave for about 45 sec… use the Aerolatte, then add my espresso for a wonderful cappuccino. So after many years of my previous machine taking up tons of space, I thought, “Do they make a machine that doesn’t have all the steaming element?” With the excellent help from this site I was pointed here. I’ve had the machine about a year now and am as happy with it now as I was when I first got it.”

  • Mike734 – (5/5) “Fast first cup. Great flavor and crema. Yes the preprogrammed size is customizable. Relatively quiet.”

  • Traveller– (5/5) “I like a strong coffee with nice crema on top. I also like to try different beans to taste their different flavor and aroma. This Jura machine fits my needs, and is simple to operate. Nothing fancy, none of that dairy stuff but it performs all the functions I need. Even though it is somewhat costly I am very happy with this”

  • Coffee time in Austin – (5/5) “I am not a hardcore coffee purist but do have certain expectations when it comes to my morning cup. The Micro 1 couldn’t be easier to use and in less than a minute after turning the unit on, you are drinking a great cup of hot coffee. The options for setting bean grind fineness, amount of grind, and amount of water should allow for a range of different coffee strengths to suit most coffee drinkers.”

  • G – (5/5) “I wasn’t interested in any milk-based drinks so I opted for this machine. I’ve had it for several months now and really enjoy it. This really is a “personal” coffee machine. If I’m in the mood for a 3rd longo for the day I’d better be in the mood to refill the water reservoir. Nothing about this machine says “great for the office”….it’s just a nice machine for at-home use…maybe for 2. It’s quick, simple, and makes great coffee drinks.”

  • Simon – (5/5) “As an upgrade to our office Keurig machine, the Jura provides the same level of simplicity and speed, while dramatically improving our coffee. Overall a very worthwhile addition to the office.”

Pros

  • Makes killer espresso, ristretto, and other black coffee in less than a minute
  • Easy set-up and cleaning thanks to built-in automatic cleaning functions
  • Straightforward operation
  • Impressive design and sensor-touch controls
  • Customization of water volume and coffee amount

Cons

  • Despite its compact size, Jura ENA Micro 1 is heavy
  • Expensive than drip-type machines
  • Grinder and pump makes a bit of noise
  • Sensor-touch controls can be too sensitive for other users
  • No auto functions for milk-based drinks

Conclusion

If you love authentic coffee, the Jura ENA Micro 1 delivers only the highest quality espresso you can get. With powerful boiler and pump, working alongside patented Aroma+ systems, each serving ensures the oils and aroma are captured consistently. While this bean-to-cup machine doesn’t have built-in parts for milk-based drinks, the first shot or cup from the Jura ENA Micro 1 will make you forget about the lack of a frother.
